What is a New Year celebration without the champagne? Just plain boring and uneventful! So what better way for new and experienced aficionados to kick off 2015 than with the mild Perdomo robusto by the same name?
I was first introduced to the Perdomo 10th Anniversary Champagne by an experienced, well-traveled gentlemen who takes pleasure in schooling anyone in ear shot about cigars. As a friend of mine was searching the humidor at my favorite B & M for an enjoyable first-time smoke, the first cigar that our resident expert recommended was one of these orange-cellophane wrapped beauties.
Perdomo 10th Anniversary Champagne
Wrapper: Connecticut Shade
Binder: Cuban-Seed Nicaraguan
Filler: Cuban-Seed Nicaraguan
Vitola for eval: 5 x 54 Robusto
This is one of those sticks that I highly recommend toasting before lighting. Not just to ensure a great burn, but seeing the light, smooth Connecticut wrapper burn from gold to black is definitely a treat. You can also see the contrasting color of tobacco upon cut as the dark filler looks nice against the light tan wrapper. Firing up very easily, the Perdomo 10th Anniversary Champagne offer a slightly tight draw at first that opened up nicely after about 3-5 puffs. You could tell from looking at it that there was no shortage of tobacco filling it.
For those that prefer a cigar on the milder side of life, the contrast between the sweet, creamy wrapper and the complexities of the Nicaraguan ingredients offered a great balance. What starts off with a little spice, the Champagne mellows out and stays extremely consistent all the way down to the end. There is no First Third, Second Third, etc, with this cigar, which is why the Champagne is truly an everyday smoke. Like going to your favorite restaurant and ordering the exact same dish every time, you know exactly what you’re going to get and you’re completely satisfied with that. This short, thick robusto gives a surprisingly long smoking experience for its size…and one that is quite enjoyable.
Because the flavor and body of this cigar are not overwhelming, I recommend pairing it with something that is equally as mild…Sparking Water, Coffee…and hell, why not a little Champagne.
If you enjoy having a cigar in the morning or just like something smooth and creamy with mild body, keep a few of these in your humidor. Toast your cigar and toast to the New Year by completing your cigar collection with the Perdomo 10th Anniversary Champagne Robusto.
